The three contemporary icons that I chose to discuss are the Statue of Liberty, The Lincoln Memorial, and the American Flag.  These three icons have a symbolization associated with each that helped make our country what it is today. The Statue of Liberty can be found at the entrance of the New York Harbor.  The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to celebrate the 100th American Independence anniversary.  The Statue of Liberty stands for peace, justice and freedom for all.  The Lincoln Memorial was constructed in honor Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president, who emancipated slaves and helped save the union during the American Civil War.  The American Flag represents our 50 states, and 13 colonies, as well as, our government as a whole.  The white stripes symbolize purity, and innocence. The red stripes represent valor, and hardiness, and the blue stands for perseverance, justice and vigilance.  The stars represent our 50 states. When we fly the flag we are indicating that we are proud of our country, and it shows a symbol of unity, and the strength of our nation.

The icons I chose, to me, represents our nation, and played a big part in the making of our history, that helped shape our country into what it is today. I believe that these three icons are also recognized by many other people in the United States, and in other countries as well.  The Statue of Liberty was something seen by immigrants entering our country.  A sight the immigrants will never forget.  The American Flag  is another special symbolization of our country.  Some people may not think so highly of it, but I believe it is important to our nation.  The Lincoln Memorial is a representation of Abraham Lincoln, who played a non- forgettable part in history during his presidency.

The Statue of Liberty is amazing to see up front.  I was in New York last summer, and the first thing I wanted to see was the Statue of Liberty.  As I was standing in front of the statue,it brought tears to my eyes, because of her brilliance.  The Lincoln Memorial is something else that I saw this summer while in Washington D.C.  This memorial to me was just an indescribable piece of art.  When you stand in front of the memorial, it just brings cold chills down your spine, while thinking about what Abraham Lincoln did for our country.  The American flag is important to me because it represents freedom, and is a constant reminder of history.  I fly the flag proudly at home.
